Interior Design Takes Centre Stage

What a week!

Surface_Design_2013.pngAs always at Design Software Solutions, the first three months of the year are manic for training. Kate, as she has told you, has been up to Pitlochry to train technical theatre staff in the delights of Vectorworks Spotlight. Likewise Mark has been teaching Spotlight to four groups of technical theatre student at Mountview Academy in London. Meanwhile, Tamsin and I spent the beginning of the week preparing for a large BIM training project.

And that was just Monday!

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday saw me taking the Vectorworks message to the Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington. Aimed at Architects and Interior designers, the event showcases the latest innovations in surface design and representation and we were delighted to be there for the second year running. The event is really well run and the marketing by the organisers was really focused and made the exhibition a success for us for the second year running.  Our task now is follow up on the 150+ people who wanted to understand better how Vectorworks can simplify and streamline their workflow.

Wednesday in particular was an interesting day as I was booked to deliver two CPD sessions. The first was at the RIBA CPD providers day where we had 104 architects booked for the “BIM - your next step” session. The room was packed to overflowing and I was pleased to receive some very complimentary feedback on the way that the CPD session positioned the world of BIM, and Vectorworks, in a way that made sense and was understandable to all. More importantly, a significant number expressed an interest in understanding more about Open BIM and Vectorworks.

From there it was back to Surface Design to join Mark and George and then to deliver a further CPD session, “Working with other professionals in the world of BIM”, to a mixed audience of interior designers and architects. On Tuesday and Wednesday the show didn’t finish until 9:00 p.m. and I think that this was part of the appeal to the attendees.

That just left Friday - three online demonstrations looking at Vectorworks Landmark, Architect and interiorcad from extragroup, to three companies new to Vectorworks. So a busy week, but we still managed to squeeze in some office viewings as we look to larger premises when our current lease runs out. Larger premises will enable us to train more people, going someway to cater for the ever increasing number of enquiries for Vectorworks training.
